The Clean 15 & Dirty Dozen

I strongly believe in eating organic whenever possible. Non-organic fruits & vegetables have been sprayed with pesticides several times before you bring them home and often those chemicals can not be completely washed off. Strawberries are known for being one of the worst. In one study by the Environmental Working Group the strawberries they tested had 36 types of pesticides. Grapes are also a very thin skinned fruit and have often been sprayed over 30 times during their growth. I personally do not want these pesticides making it into my meals.

Another great reason to buy organic is the extra boost of vitamins & minerals found in them. We often add things like blueberries & strawberries to our diet for their health benefits. An extensive study done by Newcastle University "has shown that organic crops are up to 60% higher in a number of key antioxidants than conventionally-grown ones." This mean, by eating these organic options we are getting "additional antioxidants equivalent to eating between 1-2 extra portions of fruit and vegetables a day." I don't know about you, but to me, broccoli isn't THAT delicious. So, if I can eat one portion of it without any pesticides harming my body & getting the nutrients from two to three portions of broccoli...I'm all in!

Exciting right?! Now you're ready to eat organic but concerned about the cost. That's where this handy little chart is going to come in! Did I mention it's super cute?! The EWG has made a very popular list we call the Clean 15 & Dirty Dozen. The Dirty Dozen are twelve fruits and vegetables that have the highest amount of pesticides and are best to buy organic when possible. The Clean Fifteen are the ones with the lowest amount of pesticides, making them okay to buy non-organic.

Save this to your phone & the next time you go shopping you'll know exactly what to buy!

Have you made the switch to eating organic? I hope this pretty pink cheat sheet helps! If you have any questions feel free to ask them below!
